• The design for this residence was partly defined by the relatively small size of the lot, while the size of the house is rather large. The clients wanted to have a new house built that could be lived in on the ground floor. The trapezoid main shape of the residence, built on a split-off lot in the back garden of their old house, was derived from the maximum construction potential of the property.
  The striking, steep zinc roof, which starts very low at the front, makes the house seem very modest from the street. The location demanded it: there was little reason to make a very prominent front façade here, because there are beautiful big trees on the street side. The alternation of areas of white stucco and red brick in the outer façade also make the house seem smaller and fit in better with the neighbouring houses. The colour division is carried through in the terracotta eaves.
  Inside the house looks like a big barn. The high and steep roof is kept entirely visible. On the ground floor are the living room, the kitchen, the bedroom and a bathroom. The walls of these individual rooms are all detached from the roof.
  On the first floor are two guest rooms and a bathroom for the children, who live in New Zealand. The bathroom has been placed under the big roof like a kind of New Zealand wooden beach hut. From here guests can look down into the living quarters below. The staircase in the living room runs along the fireplace, which forms the centre of the house and around which the seating has been grouped, forming with it a kind of stage.
