Grand Opening of Spijkenisse's Stadsplein

Mayor Mirjam Salet and alderman Gert-Jan 't Hart of the municipality of Spijkenisse officially opened Stadsplein (town square), in the heart of Spijkenisse, on Thursday, 15 September 2011.

Stadsplein, a new living and working development close by the existing shopping centre, is intended to give the city a new impulse. One of the main requirements of the plan was that it was to include a clear and convenient thoroughfare for pedestrians and shoppers to reach the existing city centre. This has been achieved with the two shopping streets that lead from the shopping centre to Stadsplein. The streets curve gently, so that the pedestrians cannot see all the way to the end; instead the route slowly unfolds as the walker travels along it.
