Foundation stone new development Kessler Foundation in the Hague

On Friday the 19th of February 2010 alderman Bert van Alpen laid the first foundation for the new development of the Kessler Foundation at the De la Reyweg in The Hague. Many people from The Hague know the characteristic building of the Kessler Foundation at the De la Reyweg 522. Since the year 1923 this was the place where many homeless people were received, taken care off and guided.

The building was demolished at the end of 2009 because of the terrible state the building was in and because of the fact that it did not meet the expectations that are demanded of a modern building. On the same spot there will arise a new multifunctional complex where 155 clients can get help.

The city of The Hague wanted a building with a striking appearance again. For the design we were inspired by the 15th century architecture of the hospital ‘Hotel-Dieu’ at Beaune in France. The new development in the Transvaal neighbourhood will have the same extraordinary and stylish mosaic roof as the hospital ‘Hotel-Dieu’. And although a very important symbol for the neighbourhood had disappeared a new striking building will take its place.

The City of the Hague has commissioned the project. BAM Woningbouw The Hague is responsible for the realization of it. Soeters Van Eldonk Architecten had made the design.
